Developing a project-specifi c business model requires a clear understanding of how various elements interact within a business model framework. This complexity is addressed by the Business Model Canvas—a tool that visually summarizes key components of business models. It facilitates clarity, strategic insight, collaboration, rapid iteration, and identifi cation of potential gaps while bridging profi t-oriented models with public value creation. The Business Model Canvas provides a structured approach to visualizing a business’s core elements and interactions. By fi lling out nine interconnected sections, individuals and teams can assess business strengths and weaknesses, and explore growth opportunities. It encourages creativity and adaptation, offering a dynamic platform for strategic planning and collaborative development. This learning unit introduces the Business Model Canvas by explaining its nine components, derived from Osterwalder and Pigneur’s framework. Participants will engage in interactive activities such as case study analysis and group discussion to map and apply these components practically. The goal is to prepare learners to utilize the canvas in public value-focused projects effectively.
