Creating an effective business model for non-profi t organizations in the context of Local Digital Twins (LDT) presents unique challenges. Standard tools like the Business Model Canvas, tailored for profi t-oriented entities, leave a gap in adequately addressing non-profi t requirements, especially when aiming to integrate sustainability aspects. Adapting existing models to enhance strategic decision-making for public projects is crucial for maximizing public value and maintaining alignment with societal needs. The City Model Canvas (CMC), a derivative of the Business Model Canvas, offers a structured approach to address these challenges. By integrating concepts like the Triple Bottom Line, CMC provides a comprehensive framework that accounts for economic, social, and environmental dimensions, making it apt for smart urban services in non-profi t sectors. It matches the specifi city of LDT projects by mapping out stakeholders, resources, partnerships, and sustainable fi nancial strategies to ensure alignment with public-interest goals. This learning unit introduces the City Model Canvas framework, focusing on its relevance for Local Digital Twins. Participants explore the CMC through theoretical discussions and practical exercises, like matching canvas elements to existing smart city case studies. This encourages understanding of how CMC elements can be applied to LDT projects, shedding light on stakeholder engagement, resource allocation, and sustainability measures tailored to enhance public value in urban settings.
