In the interconnected world, achieving true inclusion begins with effective communication. A common understanding is necessary, but even when using the same words, differing contexts can alter meanings, posing challenges. Without clear communication, Universal Design cannot succeed as it relies fundamentally on shared understanding to break barriers and foster trust. To address this challenge, the unit proposes using Universal Design principles with a focus on communication. It emphasizes developing a shared vocabulary and communication skills, which are crucial in making sense of LDTs. These tools enable partic- ipants to interact effectively across diverse cultural and linguistic contexts, enhancing interoperability and collaboration. Through this MLU, learners will practice effective commu- nication models, such as Marshall Ganz’s narrative framework and Schulz von Thun’s communication square. Activities include crafting personal narratives, expanding vocabulary, and engaging in communication exercises to enhance clarity and mutual comprehension.
