Public sector organisations are struggling to adapt to rapid change, where familiar tools and linear solutions often fall short. As expectations rise and challenges become more interconnected, professionals need approaches that help them make sense of complexity and understand how their work fi ts within larger systemic dynamics. Cultivating this broader perspective is essential for meaningful and sustainable transformation. To support this shift, systems thinking, design thinking, and systems design are introduced as complementary ways of understanding and shaping change. Systems thinking reveals the patterns that connect elements, design thinking emphasises the human perspective within those processes, and systems design integrates both to create conditions where innovation can take root across an organisation. This microlearning unit offers a conceptual foundation for systems innovation in the public sector. By exploring these mindsets, learners strengthen their capacity to engage in future co-creation and contribute to systemic improvement that endures.
