Understanding social and non-profi t business models within public and urban management projects is crucial as traditional, profi t-oriented frameworks often fall short in these contexts. These projects prioritize social and environmental values over fi nancial returns, presenting challenges for effective business model application and value creation tailored to non-profi t intentions. To address this, the learning unit explores applying business model frameworks like the Social Business Model and others adapted for smart cities. These models integrate social and fi nancial objectives, offering insights into value creation with a primary social mission, essential for urban projects aiming beyond mere profi t. This microlearning unit teaches the construction and application of social and non-profi t business models through core frameworks, like the Mission Model Canvas and City Model Canvas. It includes hands-on activities to identify and analyze recurring patterns across diverse frameworks, aiding learners in adapting models for a social and non-profi t focus in urban and smart city contexts.
